This is day four of the 30 day challenge! During this week I am covering the words that Jesus uttered on the cross. Today’s word comes from the Gospel of John 19:26, where it says:

When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, “Dear woman, here is your son,”

Jesus is suffering on the cross and his first words deal with the needs of others. This particular passage shows us how he cares for his people. He made sure that his mother Mary was taken care of.

The Bible promises us on many ocassions that we will not be alone but rather we will be taken care of. Many people struggle with loss, pain, and sadness; however, even in the most difficult times Jesus lets us know that we are taken care of.

Place yourself in the shoes of the mother that is losing her son. She probably felt as if her world was crashing down on her. How would you feel?

Here Jesus is also an example of a caring son. He did not take his mother for granted but rather valued her. He wanted to make sure that in his absense her needs would be met. What a great example indeed.

Question:

What is your take on this passage? Would his concerns be your concerns if you faced a similar situation?
